Check Your First Bill from AT&T Closely – You may be charged for days you did not even have your phone…

// July 22nd, 2010 // No Comments » // Cheap iPhone Monthly Service

My first bill from AT&T was $114.38 and I was billed a pro-rated amount for days that I did not even have my phone, I was billed for 7/1 – 7/6/2010 and I didn’t even receive shipment of my phone, from apple.com, until 7/7/2010.

The one plus is that the representative I talked with was very courteous and (after explaining the above to her) she reduced my bill from:

$114.38  to $100.17  (this includes an activation fee of $36) so my actual bill for my first month of service was $64.17 (This is with the bare minimum of 450 minutes and $15 for the 200 MB of data and $5 for the 200 texts a month.

With Tmobile

1000 anytime minutes of service   $39.99
1000 texts                         $9.99

for about $58.49 total/month
So right now I am only paying around $15.68/month to have an iPhone 4 and actually a data plan (I had only wifi with my blackberry) so basically I am being charged for a data plan (plus the cost of the iPhone 4 and the 2 year contract). I was at on vacation for a week with no cell phone service so I may come closer or overrun my minutes and data next month – hopefully not.
***I will probably have a better estimate on cost and usage during the month of August, since I didn’t have the phone for the whole month and couldn’t use it for about 5 days during July

lost or stolen iPhone help, advice, and hints

// July 6th, 2010 // No Comments » // Cheap iPhone Monthly Service, iPhone

If you lose your iPhone here is an article that may help you out:

http://gizmodo.com/5578962/i-left-my-iphone-4-on-the-roof-of-my-car

“Yes sir, thats correct. To get a new phone, you’ll have to pay 199.” Okay, so 199 for a replacement phone; contract price, not too bad but still out of the realm of “no big deal.” I wasn’t satisfied. It was then that a co-worker suggested AT&Ts family locate feature. This GLORIOUS little feature works with practically any phone, including the iPhone, lets you use it for free for the first 30 days and is 9.99 every month after that! That is if you havent deactivated your SIM… DOH! If only the ATT rep had told me that nifty little bit of info…So for you MobileMe users out there who shell out 100 bucks every year only to use it for insurance purposes, look out, there’s a new sheriff in town!

While the FamilyMap feature does work eventually, it seems that it only works upon reboot of the device, or when the device moves (after a deactivation and a re-activation)”

***Note: Right now (07/06/2010) the Mobil Me account is offering 60 days for free, and you can buy mobil me activation numbers very cheaply (and quickly since the number can be emailed you) on eBay.

Here’s a search:

http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=MC288Z%2FA&_sacat=0&_odkw=mobile+me&_osacat=0&bkBtn=&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313

The key is:

You must have the Mobile Me account before you lose your iPhone, and I don’t know for sure whether or not you can use mobile me for free during the trial period and then use the code you bought on eBay for a total of 14 months – the guy I bought it from said I could. I bought mine for $50 (no shipping because the code was emailed to me).

***I don’t know for sure if your iPhone is stolen whether or not the police would care if it could be located with “Find my iPhone), if they would help you find it/prosecute the people it was found it with, or not, does anyone know?

***You also MUST turn it ON when you buy your iPhone – it is NOT on by default.
